One person, accountable

IndependentThe story so far
A website builder made by one person who got tired of clunky tools — for people who would rather run their business than manage their website.
Joybird started with a simple observation: running a website shouldn’t be a second job. For years I built and maintained websites for my own projects and for clients, and the tools were always the problem — not the solution.
Every CMS I tried felt clunky and, frankly, a little hostile to a non-technical user. Plugin updates, theme conflicts, server upgrades every time traffic ticked up. That’s not building a website. That’s babysitting one.
So I set out to build the opposite: a website builder that treats your time like it matters.
My guiding principle is simple: running a website should be so easy that my mom could do it.
Not because my mom isn’t capable — she is. But because she shouldn’t have to become a developer to put her small business online. If Joybird ever needs a manual longer than a post-it note, it has failed the test.
For most websites, the basics aren’t optional: fast pages, hosting that doesn’t fall over on a good traffic day, automatic backups, solid SEO, mobile layouts that just work.
On other platforms those are add-ons — plugins, upgrades, upsells. Here they are the defaults. Why make it hard to have the stuff everybody needs?
Website tools have barely changed in decades. Joybird is built for what comes next: you describe what you want, and the AI handles the nitty-gritty — copy, layout, SEO, the parts nobody enjoys.
That’s the vision: a tool where the computer does the chores and you do the thinking.
